The World Trade Organisation (WTO), has warned of a severe impact on the global economy if the US and China get into a serious trade war. The warning follows the two giant economies announcing proposed tariffs against one another, as Washington accuses Beijing of unfair trade policies. The development, the WTO says will lead to a fall in global growth. Assessing the impact of the trade war on the Ghanaian economy, Economist Dr. Lord Mensah believes Ghana stands to benefit from the trade tension. He explained the development will compel China to increase its trade volumes with emerging economies including Ghana, to avoid export-earnings-deficit. Dr Lord Mensah cautions government not to allow the overflow of Chinese imports, as that will affect local manufacturers. Meanwhile, some local manufacturers have expressed concern that further opening the Ghanaian market for Chinese imports will threaten their existence in business. But, Economist Dr Lord Mensah says Ghana needs some level of import to improve its economy. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
