Ministry of Health in collaboration with its partners has launched this year’s mass distribution campaign of Long Lasting Insecticide Net (LLIN)at Adidome in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region to help reduce malaria cases in the country. 

The nationwide campaign which has begun in the Volta Region is dubbed, “Sleep under a Treated net for a Good Life”. 

About 15 point five million treated bed nets are expected to be distributed across nine regions in the country with the exception of Upper West Region which is fully covered by indoor residual spraying. In the Volta Region a total of two million 240 thousand 202 registered people across the 25 districts in the region are expected to benefit from the distribution of one million 414 thousand 62 treated bed nets . Launching the campaign on behalf of the Minister of Health, Volta Regional Director of Health Service, Dr Timothy Letsa said the initiative is to draw the attention of the general public on the need to sleep under treated nets as it serves as a preventive intervention against malaria. He disclosed that the mass distribution exercise is one of the strategies adopted by the country to make treated bed nets available in many households in a bid to achieve Universal Coverage of LLIN.  He said it also falls in line with Ghana Vision 2020 long term objective of reducing incidence of communicable and preventable diseases among children as well as ensuring healthy and  productive lives for all citizens. Dr Letsa therefore urged Ghanaians to promote the use of treated nets in their communities and maintain cleanliness in their environment to prevent breeding of mosquitoes. The Programme Manager of LLIN Point Mass Distribution, Dr Kedziah Malm disclosed that the distribution process will be guided by the Ghana Health Service structures from the national to community levels to ensure none of the registered individuals is left out. She appealed to community leaders to mobilise members of their communities to register and pick the nets from the distribution points on the distribution day as well as sensitize them on the proper use, retention and care of the nets.
