Global community marks World Water Day today As the global community marks World Water Day today, the National Planning Committee for the celebration reminds the public that nature can only continue to deliver its services where ecosystems are healthy and functioning well. Therefore as communities use and divert water, they must ensure that ecosystems receive the water they need as nature is both the source of water and a water user. A Statement by the planning committee says failure to account for, invest in, protect and sustain ecosystem services undermines water security and sustainable development. It notes that the Sustainable Development Goal Six commits the world to ensuring that everyone has access to safe water by 2030, and includes targets on protecting the natural environment and reducing pollution. The focus for this year’s World Water Day is to demonstrate the potential of nature-based solutions for water and how they can be considered for water management policy and practice. As part of the celebration, there will be a community durbar at Manhean Fish Market near Galilea in the Ga South Municipal Area to mark the day. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
