Creation of Tempane District Timely - Albert Akuka Alalzuuga

The MP for Garu Constituency in the Upper East Region, Albert Akuka Alalzuuga, has said the creation of the Tempane district is necessary for development. 

According to him, the significant rise in the population of the area had put a lot of stress on resource allocated to the Garu-Tempane district assembly over the years. 

He believes that the creation of the Tempane district will reduce pressure on the then Garu-Tempane district and ensure that resources reach remote places which would otherwise have been ignored. 

Mr. Alalzuuga said even though the move is to score some political points, it’s also timely. 

He said the New Patriotic Party is building on the foundation he who is the immediate past DCE for Garu-Tempane and for that matter the NDC government laid. 

He revealed that the building which will be used as the office of the Tempane district assembly was built by NDC as a CHPS Compound.  

Touching on the five hundred and seventy dams earmarked by the NPP to construct across the three regions of the north, Mr. Alalzuuga said the government cannot construct good dams that can contain water for farmers who will like to engage themselves in dry season gardening, adding that the northern part of the country has only one month left for the rains to start. 

He explained that dams cannot be constructed during raining season. 

The MP said maybe the government wants to construct dug-outs but not dams. 

He said during his tenure in office as the DCE for Garu-Tempane his outfit constructed eight dug-outs. 

According to Mr. Alalzuuga, it is not easy to construct dams, noting that dug-out can be constructed one day but dam cannot be constructed just one day.  

He said government should construct dams like Tamne irrigation dam which will be completed in July this year. 

He said when the Tamne dam the Garu district is completed young men and women traveling to the southern part of the country to seek for non-existent jobs will be a thin of the past. 

Meanwhile, the Garu Constituency Lawmaker said the NPP government is struggling with the free SHS because of inadequate infrastructure at the various Senior High Schools. 

He said the situation will be worst in the next academic year since the number will increase. 

Mr. Alalzuuga said parents will soon suffer because the congestion is likely to cause an outbreak of disease. 

He said due to lack of space in the various dormitories across the various schools the students have to leave their chop-boxes outside. 

The situation he described as pathetic. 

He said the NPP government should have learnt from the NDC government by working on infrastructure before implementing the free SHS.  

He said the only way to lessen the burden of the students and parents is for government to reduce the intake in the next academic year or give the needed attention to infrastructure in the various Senior High Schools across the country. 

Mr. Alalzuuga said the free SHS is not a bad idea but government should have taken the necessary steps in its implementation.
