At least 26 dead in suicide blast in Kabul

Afghans were celebrating Nawruz, or Persian new year, in Kabul on Wednesday when a suicide bomber struck.

At least 26 people were killed and 18 injured in the blast outside the Kart-e Sakhi shrine near the university.

It's the latest in a series of attacks targeting Shi'ite shrines in the city.

Nawruz is widely celebrated in Afghanistan, but some fundamentalist muslims oppose it on the grounds that it's un-Islamic.

Its disruption by a suicide bomber is a setback for the government, which had vowed to improve security after a deadly January attack in which over a hundred people died.
