CCOD introduces 2 programs in Organisational Development

In bid to sharpen the entrepreneurial skills of young people for them to be in sync with demands of job market, the College for Community and Organisational Development (CCOD) has introduced two programs in Organisational Development (OD). 

The programs are Bachelor of Science in OD (BOD) and Master of Science in OD (MOD). 

CCOD which is affiliated to the University for Development Studies (UDS) also relates with the Institute of Organisational Development in the United States of America in its quest to deliver cutting edge OD training to fast-track development in Africa. 

A statement signed by the President of CCOD, Dr. Gabriel Benarkuu in Sunyani as part of the introduction of the programs says the OD initiative is being championed by indigenous Africans. 

GBC’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo says the College is also the Premier Technical OD University in Africa. 

According to Dr. Benarkuu, it is a social innovation service being offered to liberate African youth, men and women from what he termed “underdevelopment and entrepreneurship-slavery”. 

Quoting a World Bank report of 2017, the President of CCOD said, “The increasing demand and limited supply of tertiary education in the sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) region has led to tertiary education being available only to a subset of the youth population”. 

Dr. Benarkuu continued that, “international experience suggests that university education often starts being biased towards the elite and as it expands it becomes more equitable, albeit rarely without distinct policies aimed at achieving this.” 

He emphasized that in sub-Saharan Africa, the selection process has remained based on persistent social inequities and disparities by gender, geography, and ethnicity. 

The President of CCOD observed that to date, tertiary education in SSA has remained elitist, benefiting students mostly from the most affluent, well connected families. 

Among those who were at the launch of the two programs which started with of the float included Council members of CCOD, the Media, youth associations and CCOD Alumni. 

A CCOD alumnus and worker of GBC in Sunyani,Abubakar Sadik popularly known as Danjima Yaro testified that OD course had shaped his way of thinking as well as his approach to issues in his line of duty as a journalist. 

He announced that the training he received as student of OD enabled him “to carry out an organizational capacity assessment, team building intervention and strategic plan” for GBC’s Radio B.A.R. Mr. Yaro indicated that he was a member of a team of experts that developed the first formal strategic plan for the office of the Bono-Ahafo Regional Chief Imam and described the plan as the first of its kind the running of the office. 

Other notable CCOD alumni included,Noble Brother Captain Michael Dono, Pastor Jefferson Agbotro and Miss Evelyn Bema.
