Eschew tribal and ethnocentrism from their body politics – Alhaji Otito Achuliwor An aspiring candidate for the position of the Upper East Regional Chairman, Alhaji Abdallah Otito, has called on party leaders and colleague aspirants to eschew tribal and ethnocentrism from their body politics. Alhaji Otito said it is sad to note that, certain individuals and groups will even conceive this idea of pushing a tribal agenda for a particular group and discredit others. He said the 1992 constitution enjoins us all to live as one people with a common identity irrespective of one’s religious, tribal, religious or social background, thus it’s unfortunate to note these developments. Speaking to Radio Ghana’s Samuel Ayammah in Bolgatanga, Alhaji Otito said he is the only one amongst the candidates who believe that the Regional Office and for that matter the party should be run like a business entity. According to him, the move will require adequate staffing and the ability to fund its expenditure at all times. He noted that even though politics is a voluntary work but all levels spanning from the grassroots should be adequately resourced to ensure the smooth running of the party. Alhaji Otito said when given the nod he will ensure the regional office has a strong internet connectivity for effective research. He expressed the need for the party communicators to be provided with logistics and regular training to enable them carry-out their duties as expected. He said harnessing the potentials of the grassroots is the most promising element of the party’s future. He pledged to give the welfare of the grassroots the needed attention when voted to power. He said the New Patriotic Party is a liberal party which is widely known as the champions of democracy and tolerance in Africa. The party was founded by people from different backgrounds and till date, membership and composition is made-up of people from all ethnic groups and backgrounds. He used the opportunity to advice party members and leaders to refrain from such conducts as it has the tendency to bring division instead of uniting the people. Alhaji Otito described himself as a committed party man, unifier, selfless, honest, sincere, trustworthy and above all humble and a listening father. He said this is an intra-party election and as such, members should be cautious of what they say as they may need the help and support of all after the elections. He said he had the passion to seek the welfare of members, unite the party from every angle and ensure speedy resolution of concerns brought before him by the various groups and wings of the party, adding that his influence at the national headquarters even now, should tell all of and sundry that when given the nod he will confidently walk there with their needs and come out with the best of results. Alhaji Otito cautioned delegates to be cautious of such individuals who peddle such sentiments and advised them to vote for someone like him who is vibrant, resourceful, hardworking and results oriented to lead the region to ensure they retain current parliamentary seats and increase the numbers in the next elections as well as secure another victory for president Akufo Addo in the 2020 elections.
