UN Environment is supporting five African countries to develop policies that will lead to the importation of electric vehicles.

The U.N Environment is supporting five African countries including Kenya, Rwanda and Morocco to develop the right policies that will lead to the importation of electric vehicles.

The organisation is also assisting Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand in the same regard.

The Programme Officer, Air Quality and Mobility Unit of U.N Environment, Alexander Korner announced this at the on-going Africa Mobility Week in Nairobi, Kenya. 

He said assisting countries with the right technical standards will make electric vehicles affordable on the continent. Mr Korner mentioned four cities, Abidjan, Dhaka, Lima and Santiago as being supported by U.N. Environment out of 20 cities that are preparing towards door free buses. 

The buses are equipped with low emission technologies in order to address climate change and toxic air pollution.
