Court fines two for creating filth

The Ablekuma Central District Sanitation and Motor Court has fined two people, Bernice Aheto and Awefa Nyaduro an amount of 240 Ghana cedes each for the indiscriminate dumping of refuse at unauthorized sites contravening act 851 section 56 a and b of the Public Health Act 2012.

According to the prosecutor, Issah Alhassan, the accused persons were caught on the of February 15, 2018 by the public health inspectors dumping refuse indiscriminately at unauthorized sites at Otaten, a suburb of Odorkor while on their routine inspection.

Her ladyship Linda Amissah who presided over the court fined the two, Bernice Aheto and Awefa Nyaduro 20 penalty unit each totaling 480 Ghana cedes after they pleaded guilty to their offense.

Meanwhile, a Bench Warrant has been issued for the arrest of Napoleon Mensah for failure to pay his property rate of 650 Ghana cedis including 30% penalty acting contrary to section 15(2) of act 936 of the Local Government Act 2016.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in its quest to make Accra the Cleanest city in Africa has prosecuted over 30 people since January, 2018 and will continue to prosecute anyone who flouts the Assembly’s bye-laws.

The Assembly is therefore entreating city dwellers to be disciplined and help make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
