Names of new regional capitals not yet decided - Justice Brobbey

The Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry into the creation of new regions, Justice Stephen Alan Brobbey, says the Commission has not yet decided on the title of regional capitals. 

He said the naming of regions and siting of regional capitals will be determined only after the Commission completes its work and the regions are carved. 

He said there will be a referendum after which the naming of regions and their capitals will be announced. 

Justice Brobbey, advised the youth to desist from passing comments that will inflame passions during the hearing. 

The Chairman of the Commission made these remarks at a public hearing of the Commission in Damongo. 

The Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saed, commended the Gonja Traditional Council for the warm reception saying the Regional Coordinating Council will facilitate the work of the Commission. 

He said the Northern Region is large in terms of landmark, and that makes it difficult to administer. He was hopeful the creation of new regions will bring governance closer to the people.

Earlier, the Commission paid a courtesy call on the Yagbonwura to announce their presence in the traditional area. 

The Yagbonwura called on the Commission to ensure that their petition is approved. He said the region is large and the proposed regions when carved out will enhance development and create jobs for the youth.
