Russian delegation visits UK

The Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Grigory Trubnikov visited UK on March 11-13, 2018. 

The visit was dedicated to the successful end of the bilateral Year of Science and Education.

The delegation visited leading UK universities - Oxford and Imperial College, as well as scientific-research centres, working on cutting-edge projects like Fusion Energy Synchrotron, Diamond Light Source and ISIS neutron generator.

Its highlight was the election of Professor Yuri Oganessian as Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry for the opening of 118th element of the periodic table, named Oganesson in his honour.

Meanwhile, UK says she will expel 23 Russian diplomats after Moscow refused to explain how a Russian-made nerve agent was used on a former spy in Salisbury.

The UK Prime Minister, Theresa May said the diplomats, who have a week to leave, were identified as "undeclared intelligence officers".

The UK later told the UN Security Council that Russia had used "a weapon so horrific that it is banned in war" in a "peaceful" British city.

But Russia has denied attempted murder and says it will respond appropriately.
