Parliament said to be failing in its oversight functions on Financial matters

The Executive Director of the Africa Center for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Rashid Draman says Ghana's parliament has failed in its oversight function of controlling how state resources are used by the executive arm of government. 

Speaking on Talking Point, Dr. Draman said every parliamentarian should have technical staff in terms of financial expertise to help them play their oversight role. He said a research conducted by his office on seven African countries and their parliament on budgetary supervision saw Ghana being the last.

The MP for Suhum Frederick Opare-Ansah said, it is time parliament amended the part of the constitution which compels every member of parliament to sit on a Standing Committee. 

This, he said, Parliament has to address. He said Ministers who are also MPs have a hectic time combining their Ministerial work with the Standing Committee work and that is worrying.
