Experts say Ghana Beyond Aid policy could curb corruption

Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism, Nana Amaniampong Marfo, says the Ghana Beyond Aid vision of President Akufo Addo is achievable if the wastage and corrupt practices in some government agencies are stopped. 

He said there are some individuals who are milking the country, and depriving government of the needed resources for development. 

Mr. Amaniampong said given the resources of the country, Ghana should not be in the state that it currently finds itself.

Speaking on our Current Affairs programme "Focus" which discussed the theme for the 61st Independence anniversary, Mr. Marfo noted that, the Ghana Beyond Aid vision does not mean Ghana will not receive aid or sign bilateral agreements.

Rather Ghana will not depend on Foreign support for its development agenda. He said resources for development will be mobilised internally.

He was however categorical that no country in the world can live without some form of aid. A Governance Expert, Professor Baffour Agyemang Duah lauded that President for the bold initiative.

He however added that the vision must not be the usual rhetoric. He said actualising the vision will tremendously change the economic fortunes of Ghana.

A Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa cautioned that the policy of Ghana Beyond Aid Policy must not be politicised. 

He said the policy is a good move and must transcend all governments.
