Mineworkers threaten to strike over Goldfields redundancy exercise

Staff of Goldfields Ghana limited who are to be laid off have complained about the company's use of the Military to intimidate them to sign the redundancy letter before and after an Accra High Court ruled to dismiss the writ to halt Goldfields retrenchment of more than two thousand workers. 

This came to light at a mini rally to protest against the actions of the military at Goldfields in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality of the Western Region. 

Meanwhile, a Labour Consultant, Austin Gamey has described as unfortunate, the alleged presence of military men to force some workers of Goldfields to sign redundancy letters following a Court ruling last Friday.

He noted that such a move is unfair and not associated with Industrial Relations.

In an interview with Jonathan Thompson, Mr Gamey said the decision to go to Court was out of place.

He indicated that the Labour Commission should have been the appropriate quarters to handle the issue.

He has therefore called on social partners to speed up the process of setting up the National Labour Commission to deal with such difficult situations.
