Mixed reaction to Police reshuffle A Security Analyst, Emmanuel Kotin has urged the Police administration to reshuffle junior officers at divisional and district stations to achieve positive results. Commenting on the current reshuffle in the service, Mr Kotin said periodic reshuffling of the top officials will not gain the desired results if junior officers are made to remain in their stations for longer periods. He said former Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Kofi Boakye should have been made Director General in charge of Operations since his track record justifies his ability to hold that office efficiently. Mr Kotin lauded government's efforts in combating the spate of robberies in the country especially with formation of ‘Operation Calm Life.’ He was however quick to add that it should not last for more than three months. Meanwhile, security analyst, Adib Sanni has described the recent changes in the Ghana Police Service as a nonstarter. He said the move is laughable because not much will be achieved. Speaking to GBC’s Cynthia Boateng, Mr Saani said there are more pressing fundamental issues begging for attention which includes adequately resourcing the service and making sure that the needed logistics, and training are provided. Mr Saani said personnel who are recruited into the service must be screened thoroughly to ensure that they have no criminal background. Sharing his thoughts on the root causes of armed robbery in the country, Mr Saani said there are multifactorial causes for the spate of armed robbery which includes youth unemployment, rural -urban migration and the lack of adequate resources for the police service to respond to distress calls.
