29th January, 2018 The Daily Graphic encourages a scale-up in tree planting programmes as a long term solution to the sustenance of the environment and availability of water. Emphasising on the need to preserve water, the paper attributes the ongoing water rationing by the Ghana Water Company Limited in eight of the ten regions to the impact of galamsey operators and other human activities that destroy water bodies. It says trees are at the heart of the water network hence planting trees along river banks will save over hundred gallons of water. The Ghanaian Times reiterates calls for a speedy revamp of the railway system in the country to reduce the pressure on the road transport system. The paper is alarmed at the high rate of road accidents, describing it as a daily occurrence rather than a seasonal one. According to the paper, the spate of road accidents is overtaking HIV/AIDS as a major cause of deaths in society. The Times encourages domestic airlines to introduce affordable packages for people to travel internally because it is safer. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
