UMaT renamed George Grant University of Mines and Technology The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) has been officially renamed the ''George Grant University of Mines and Technology.'' The school is named after the first President of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC). President Akufo-Addo unveiled the new name at a special congregation of the school to install Former President John Kufuor as its first Chancellor. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor inaugurated the Tarkwa based tertiary institution in August 2005. President Akufo-Addo, said it is only fitting that George Grant, described as the father of modern Ghanaian nationalist is properly honoured by a grateful people, especially citizens of the Western Region. Chairman of the University’s Council, Dr. Stephen Yirenkyi, appealed to government to allocate funds for the expansion and completion of some projects. Dr Yirenkyi, pledged to assist the new Chancellor, former President Kufuor to govern the school, which he said is an enormous task. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
