Thabo Mbeki leads Commonwealth Observer Mission for Ghana’s elections The former President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, will lead the Commonwealth Observer Group to Ghana in next month's general election. This follows an invitation to the Commonwealth Secretariat from the Electoral Commission. The Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland said, early this week that Commonwealth High Commissioners made it clear that one of their core functions is observing elections. She said Thabo Mbeki is a campaigner for Human Rights and an advocate of the rule of law, and will do a perfect job. After the election, the Commonwealth Observer Group will transmit its report to the Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland. She will then convey observations and any recommendations to the government, all the political parties, and the wider Commonwealth family. GBC
