Konongo Odumase Senior High School closed down

The Konongo-Odumase Senior High School, (KOSS) at Konongo-Odumase in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality in Ashanti has been closed down. 

This follows two days of agitations by students of the school who are demanding the transfer of the Headmistress, Madam Comfort Odehe. 

A source at the Ashanti Regional office of the Ghana Education Service, which confirmed the closure to GBC's Radio Ghana in Kumasi, said preliminary investigation suggests that the students' agitation is also related to supposed poor meals served during the week.

The source could not tell how soon the school will be re-opened especially as first and second cycle schools are expected to begin preparations for their End of Term Examinations.
An eye witness, however, told Radio Ghana that the students started demonstrating at the school's premises around 10.30 pm yesterday (November 25) during which they allegedly hurled objects at some school property including the residence of one of the Assistant Headmasters.

Reports say, Police personnel who were deployed to the school managed to calm the situation until at about 2.30 pm today, (November 26), when the students started further demonstrations to back their request for an immediate transfer of the Head Mistress. 

They also want a reversal of a supposed directive by the Director General of the GES transferring 10 teachers of the school with one dismissed.

It said the directive follows a recent Kumasi High Court ruling exonerating a male teacher accused of sodomizing one male student of the school. 

The dismissed teacher and the 10 others have been transferred for allegedly inciting the students against the teacher accused of sodomy.

Security has been tightened on the school's premises with police reinforcement.
