Former Director General of GBC, Eva Lokko laid to rest A former Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation the late Madam Eva Lokko has been laid to rest at the Osu cemetery on Friday. The Director General of GBC, Dr. Kwame Annoff accompanied by Directors, flagbearear of the Progressive People’s Party, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom and executives of the party were among scores of people from all walks of life paid their last respect. Also were the parliamentary candidates of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), Dr. Zanetor Rawlings and Philip Anderson of the New Patriotic Party, ( NPP).. At a burial service at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, the immediate past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Robert Aboagye Mensah described the late Eva Lokko as a woman who has lived a purposeful, cheerful and disciplined life due to her faith that was grounded in Christ. He called on all Christians to emulate a life well lived such as that of Madam Eva Lokko. Eva Naa Merley Lokko died on October, 6, 2016. She was an engineer and politician. In 2012, Mad. Eva Lokko partnered Dr. Nduom as the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Progressive People's Party. She partnered the flagbearer of the PPP, in the Presidential and parliamentary elections. She was also the first female Managing Director of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation Lokko attended Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast. She was an engineer by profession and held a master's degree in Intelligent Management Systems, System Analysis and Design. Mad. Lokko was the first Satellite Communications Engineer and the first woman engineer to be employed at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in 1972. She was part of the engineering team that installed and maintained Ghana's first color television infrastructure in 1985. She worked in over forty countries across the world in various capacities. She served as regional programme coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme initiative for Internet development in Africa. Eva Lokko worked with the United Nations for thirteen years and also served as chairperson of the UN Federation of International Civil Servants Association and the United Nations Staff Council and as a member of the UNDP News Advisory Board. She was the Chief Executive Officer of Totally Youth, a Non-Governmental Organization based in Accra. In 2002, she was appointed Director-General of the GBC, becoming the first and only woman to hold that position since the corporation was established in 1953 Eva Lokko was a Christian and a member of the Methodist Church of Ghana. She was a member of the highest decision-making bodies of the church—Conference and Synod. She was also the chairperson of the Youth Advisory Board and served on other committees of the church in various capacities. She left behind a husband and two children.
