Judgment Debt Saga: Martin Amidu gets nod to examine Woyome 

The Supreme Court has granted Former Attorney-General, Martin Lamisi Amidu leave to orally examine business man Alfred Agbesi Woyome over the retrieval of the 51 million cedis judgement debt paid him. 

The Court ordered Mr Woyome to appear before it on the 24th of this month to be examined orally under oath by Mr Amidu. 

Mr Amidu filed a motion praying the court to allow him to cross examine Mr Woyome in a bid to retrieve the 51 million cedis judgement debt from him as ordered by the Supreme Court two years ago. 

His action comes in the wake of the Attorney General's decision not to pursue the case further. 

The Court held that it has taken the decision in view of the colossal amount involved and the fact that the Attorney-General has failed to execute the judgement of the Court since 2014 for the refund of the money from Mr Woyome.

According to the Supreme Court, Mr Amidu's action towards the execution of the judgement will benefit the nation and not for his direct benefit.

The court also held that the execution motion before it had been struck out following the AG's decision to discontinue with the case. 

Therefore, Mr Amidu who initiated the case against Mr Woyome is empowered by the Constitution to execute the Supreme Court's judgement for a refund. 

The Court also struck out some paragraphs in the affidavit of Mr Amidu because he failed to disclose his sources and those paragraphs cannot also be substantiated.
