Election 2016: GJA urges journalists to apply for accreditation

The Ghana Journalists Association, GJA is calling on both local and foreign Journalists and their crew, who will be covering this year's election on December 7, to pick accreditation forms from the Ghana International Press Centre, headquarters of the GJA.

They are to fill the forms and submit them with two passport-size photographs for accreditation by the Electoral Commission. 

Photojournalists are also to go through the same process for accreditation which is being undertaken in conjunction with Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA).

A statement signed by the President of the GJA, Roland Affail Monney said the accreditation form and its processing costs GH¢10.00 for GJA members and GH¢20.00 for non-GJA members, while foreign media personnel will pay GH¢50.00 for their accreditation. 

Local media organisations are advised to submit a group application which should be endorsed by their Editor or head of organisation.  

Local Freelance Journalists are to provide evidence of their work or produce their GJA Identity card for clearance. 

In the case of foreign media personnel, they must first register with the Ministry of Information which will assist them to pass on their documents to the Press Centre.  

Foreign applicants will be required to produce their press cards for clearance.  

The deadline for the submission of applications is 5 pm on Friday the 11th of this month. 

Regional GJA executives are to take charge of the exercise in the regions and submit applications to the Press Centre for processing. 

All matters relating to media accreditation for the 2016 election are to be forwarded to the GJA through the administrator at the Ghana International Press Centre. He could be reached on telephone number 0244711558.  

Meanwhile, the GJA is still in negotiations with the Electoral Commission, to set the date for the traditional last major news conference, held by the Chairperson of the EC before the polls. 

The traditional news conference known as “The EC-Media Tango” is held at the Ghana International Press Centre for both local and foreign media.
