Elections 2016: Ghana has come too far to have a divisive leader President John Dramani Mahama, says the country has come a long way in its democratic journey to elect a divisive leader. Addressing huge crowds on the first day of his four day Ashanti region campaign tour President Mahama, said a vote for the NPP offers Ghanaians nothing but divisiveness, tension and retrogression. The President made stops at New Edubiase, Anwease, Akrofoum, Obuasi and Boeyitey. President Mahama, again predicted a landslide victory which he likened to the speed of the World’s fastest runner Usain Bolt. President Mahama has yet again stormed a stronghold of the opposition NPP the Ashanti region. One thing was certain, aside from the euphoria there were many people clamoring for the NDC branded T-shirts and paraphernalia. The rally grounds saw long queues waiting to receive a T-shirt. The welcome party was exceptional. President Mahama, was blunt with the people. He asked them to analyze the happenings in the NPP led by Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, and choose between peace and unity and Divisiveness. According to President Mahama, members of the NPP may have regretted for not heeding to former President Kufuor’s advice to them not to choose someone who is full of tension as their leader. He said the NDC does not thrive on vindictiveness and it is the reason Ashanti region has gotten its fair share of the national cake. As a region that grows Cocoa, President Mahama, said government in its next term will step up support to Cocoa farmers in terms of the already free distribution of cocoa seedlings and inputs, farmer service centers among others. He said the new seedling takes just about three years to mature with increased yields. He encouraged farmers whose cocoa trees are more than thirty years to cut them and plant new seedlings which are free of charge. President Mahama, however finds it ridiculous that the NPP flag bearer is promising Cocoa farmers free seedlings and inputs when indeed that is already in force. Some roads in the Obuasi Municipality, will receive some attention. The NDC currently has only four Parliamentary seats in the Ashanti region. The party has the greatest conviction that the number of seats will move to thirteen. The party also believes it's agenda one million votes is achievable. GBC
