Akumadan and Afrancho to get tomato processing factory The people of Akumadan and Afrancho in the Offinso North district of the Ashanti region are to benefit from a Tomato processing factory to bring to an end the huge post-harvest loses. The people are famous for growing tomatoes on a large scale almost throughout the year. President Mahama, dropped the hint when he addressed separate rallies at Akumadan and Abofour. Radio Ghana’s Pascaline Adadevoh reports that Akumadan is the capital of Offinso North district. The people of Akumadan and Afrancho are famous for growing tomatoes on a large scale almost throughout the year. President Mahama, dropped the hint when he addressed separate rallies at Akumadan and Abofour. The mention of Akumadan brings to memory the town's expertise in Agriculture activities particularly the growing of tomatoes. It is worth noting that about ninety percent of indigenes of Akomadan are tomato farmers. Their greatest wish is to have a factory that will process their tomatoes for domestic use and for export. What government has done is to provide them with irrigation pumps to enable them to farm even in the dry season. At a Durbar the Chief of Akomadan Nana Akuamoah Boateng, placed the request for a tomato factory aside from few bad roads he would want government place under the Cocoa Roads Programme. President Mahama, said government already has plans of setting up a factory in Akomadan but before then, it is prudent to ensure that the tomatoes are produced in large quantities all year round to guarantee the effectiveness of the factory Offinso North has always had an interesting voting pattern. In 2012 Candidate John Mahama won the Presidential elections in the Offinso North constituency with a little above sixteen thousand votes. Nana Addo Danquah, followed closely with about a hundred votes less. With the Parliamentary seat the NPP Candidate Augustine Ntim, won with fifty point 36 percent whilst the NDC Candidate Samuel Kojo Appiah-Kubi, followed with forty-eight point 56 percent. The NDC Candidate is also the DCE for the area. Having interacted with few of the indigenes I noticed their interest to vote the NDC candidate Samuel Kojo Appiah-Kubi in December. According to them, even as DCE Mr. Appiah-Kubi, has single handedly championed development projects in the area which the incumbent has not been able to do in eight years. The NDC says it's operation one million votes and the capture of nine more parliamentary seats in the Ashanti region continues unabated. GBC
