Bolgatanga: Access Bank reaches out to Afrikids Medical Centre

The Bolgatanga Afrikids Medical Centre, AFMC, has taken delivery of a number of items to augment and improve health care delivery at the facility. 

The gesture estimated to cost over 6,000 Ghana Cedis was spearheaded by the Volunteering Employees of Access Bank drawn from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions. 

The items include a washing machine, 50 bed sheets and pillow cases as well as detergents and other toiletries.  

The Access Bank Employee Volunteering Program, EVP, is an initiative that affords staff of the bank to galvanize resources to assist in the execution of projects that are of value to communities that are in dire need.  

This is in line with the bank’s strategic plan of contributing to the long term sustainable development within its markets of operation.  

At a symbolic presentation held at the facility, the Bolgatanga Branch Head of Access Bank, Mumuni Abubakari said the bank is committed to leveraging its limited resources to invest in various projects across the country. 

He said the bank over the past six years, has demonstrated strong commitment to providing for a worthy cause.  

As a result, the bank has become a trail blazer providing both financial aid to clients and reaching out to needy and deprived communities in its operational areas. 

He said the bank over the said period has also worked to increase its support base in the area of health, education, environment and social improvement issues. 

Mr. Abubakari was happy to announce that the interventions made in its thematic areas had gone a long way to address some bottlenecks especially in needy communities, where access to basic health care is a source of worry to the poor and the disadvantaged. 

He said the bank is committed to actualize its Corporate Social Responsibility and will extend similar gesture to other needy institutions nationwide.  

Receiving the items on behalf of management, the Medical Director of AFMC, Dr. Emmanuel Aidoo thanked Access Bank for its show of concern. 

He said the donation has come at no opportune time than this because the laundry department at the facility has been out of use due to the breakdown of the washing machine whilst the bed-sheets and the pillow cases has come to address the shortage of the materials at the respective wards. 

He said for a facility that receives not less than 200 patients a day, the provision of the items will automatically compliment effort in its quest to providing quality health care to clients.  

Dr. Aidoo mentioned inadequate fund as the major challenge facing the facility and placed the problem squarely at the doorstep of the NHIS. 

He lamented that due to the delay in the payment of claims, the hospital is forced to purchase drugs and other medical equipment from supplies on credit. 

He said as a renowned primary healthcare facility serving close to 65,000 patients within a year, they are compelled to endure the hardship to satisfy the medical needs of patients since only 7 percent of them are cash clients with 93 percent being NHIS card bearers.  

The Access Bank last year was recognized at the West African Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Awards as “Best Bank in Corporate Social Responsibility". 

The bank received same award in 2010 and 2014 respectively at the Ghana Banking Awards.
