Parliament passes Local Governance Bill

Parliament has passed the Local Government Bill, 2016, harmonizing all existing legislations on local governance.

The Chairman of the Local Government and Rural Development Committee of Parliament, Dominic Azimbe Azumah says the Bill aside consolidating all the regulations on local government administration, gives the District Assemblies the avenue to feed their developments into the national development plan. 

He said the Bill could however not deal with the election of MMDCEs since it is a constitutional matter.

Mr. Azumah also touched on unauthorized constructions in the country in the light of the new Bill.

He said the law gives the assemblies the muscle to stop such developments.
