SADA to build 1st class vocational & technical schools in SADA Zones

The Chief Executive Officer, (CEO), of Savannah Accelerated Development Authority, (SADA), Charles Abugre, has hinted that SADA management Board is rolling out plans to build first class vocational and technical schools in each of the five regions of the SADA zone. 

Speaking at the 25th Silver Jubilee of Gowrie Senior High and Technical School at Gowrie in the Bongo District of the Upper East region, Mr. Abugre, said the project which will kick start in 2017 is aimed at creating the workforce for majority of the teeming youth for the total development of their wellbeing, the SADA zone and the county at large. 

The Silver Jubilee was on the theme, "Improving Quality of Secondary and Technical Education: the Role of Stakeholders".

Mr. Abugre also revealed that SADA is planning to provide support services in a form of Specialized Scholarship Packages to post graduate students pursuing science and engineering courses. 

This, he explained, is to complement post-secondary education monetary problems of students and also encourage more students to make an effort to venture into science and engineering courses. 

Mr. Abugre indicated that these two initiatives are to complement the effort of Ghana Education Service in providing quality education in the country. 

He advised students to disabuse their minds that science and mathematics are difficult courses and encouraged them to take up the challenge. 

He also advised the students to pursue academic excellence irrespective of their circumstances and rise high in their educational laurels.  

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Margaret Akparibo, said despite the challenges the school is facing, it has fared well in all areas including academics, sports, debate and National Science and Maths quiz competition. 

She appealed to stakeholders to support the school in terms of accommodation, infrastructure, transportation, fence gate and human resource. 

The Regional Director of education, Mrs Jane Sabina Obeng admonished students to eschew laziness and settle down to their books. 

She also advise the teachers to thoroughly research into their respective subject areas, prepare adequate lesson notes, spend quality time with the students using various methodologies including remediation sessions for the weaker students. 

The Upper East Minister, Albert Abongo said government places premium on technical and vocational education that was why it has not renege on its effort to provide support in terms of educational infrastructure, and teaching and learning materials towards quality education delivery. 

He said Gowrie Senior and Technical school has not been left out as the government has signed a contract for the construction of administrative block with a library and an ICT center. 

Others include the construction of a mechanized borehole, supply of bunks beds, mattresses, mono desks and chairs to the school.

Mr. Abongo appealed to parents and school authorities not to think only about quality education but most importantly emphasise on proper upbringing of the children. 

He added the country owes it a duty to train the youth to have good morals, sound mind and critical thinkers who would be capable of holding the effort in future. 

He used the occasion to preach peace to the people. 

Awards were presented to individuals and students who excelled in their areas of discipline.
