Court asks lawyers for PPP, EC to file written statements by October 24

The High Court has issued strict instructions to lawyers for the Electoral Commission and Papa Kwesi Nduom to file their statements of case simultaneously in the suit seeking judicial review of the disqualification of the presidential candidate of the PPP.

The presiding judge, Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, ordered the two parties to file their statements of case by Monday the 24th of this month and return to court on Tuesday to make oral submissions after which the court will set a date for its judgment.

The court said it will be guided by the time-line as far as the general elections are concerned.

Lawyer for Dr Nduom, Ayikoi Otoo, raised concerns with some paragraphs in the affidavit filed by the EC.

The paragraphs in contention are on the meeting held between the EC and the PPP after the disqualification was announced.
 
The court therefore granted the disqualified PPP presidential candidate leave to file a supplementary affidavit in respect of those paragraphs.

Nii Ayikoi Otoo also pleaded with the court to abandon grounds three of his affidavit.

The suit was to be heard at a later date but the Commission filed a motion for an abridgement of time to have it heard Thursday.

The motion was not opposed by Nii Ayikoi Otoo.
