Job creation takes centre stage in campaign messages- ICU The December 7 election is getting closer and political parties are making job creation a major focus of their campaign messages. In the view of a trade unionist, the job creation messages are an indication that politicians have seen the huge employment deficit as an area which should not be toyed with. According to the General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), Solomon Kotei, it is important to critically assess whether the jobs being promised in the various manifestoes are sustainable. He identified the missing link between the expertise needed in the world of work and the educational curricular as a major contributory factor in the increasing unemployment rate in Ghana. Mr. Kotei stressed that graduates from educational and other training institutions should be fully equipped to make them entrepreneurs. The ICU General Secretary called for a national consciousness backed by proactive policies that will enable the teaming youth to develop the passion to go into productive sectors of the economy, especially agriculture. He said interest on loan should be affordable to motivate young entrepreneurs to access such facilities to grow their businesses. GBC
