Daboya Boat Disaster Claims Three Lives


Last night’s canoe disaster on the White Volta River in Daboya claimed three lives, whiles four other persons were rescued. 

The bodies of the three victims, all women, were recovered in the early hours of today following a search and rescue mission. 

An eyewitness told Radio Ghana that the canoe had seven passengers on board, adding that the boat might have capsized as a result of overloading. 

The canoe went missing around 7 pm, and a search team was quickly dispatched to rescue them. 

Four persons were found alive, whiles three others drowned. The victims were returning from the campaign launch of the NDC Parliamentary hopeful for the area, Mahama Shaibu Obey. 

Boat disasters have become an annual occurrence around the area as most commuters prefer using the canoe because it is only forty eight Kilometers to Tamale. 

The Damongo-Fufulso junction road is the safest route to Tamale; however, it is almost twice the route across the river.
