US gov't has no favourite in Ghana's elections - US Ambassador


The US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Jackson says the US government has no favourite in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana. 

He said the US government enjoys very good relations with all parties in the country and appealed to all the presidential hopefuls to accept the verdict of the people. 

Mr. Jackson was on a five day working visit to the Northern Region and granted an exclusive interview with Radio Ghana correspondent Murtala Issah in Tamale. 

He said he has so far met with President John Dramani Mahama and the NPP flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo, adding that, he will be meeting the other presidential hopefuls in due course. 

The US ambassador is optimistic that Ghana will pull off another successful election in December and expressed the commitment of the US government continued support to make the elections a success. 

He used the opportunity to call on all political parties to desist from creating vigilante groups to intimidate the electorate and interfere with public officials. 

Ambassador Jackson said the practice of keeping vigilante groups is undemocratic and asked parties to have faith in the people.
