Gov’t increases cocoa price from 425 to 475 per bag

Government has increased the price of cocoa from 425 cedis per bag to 475 cedis for this year. 

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur who announced this at a mini rally in Asuadei in the Ahafo Ano South East constituency in the Ashanti Region said this forms part of government policy and program to give cocoa farmers the larger part of the proceeds from the sale of cocoa on the international market.  

He said the NDC is a development oriented party and that is the reason why President Mahama, must be given four more years to complete all the development projects he has initiated and do new ones. 

The mini rally was to introduce the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano South East, Chris Boadi-Mensah to the chiefs and people of the area and also inaugurate a 17-member campaign taskforce. 

He asked Ghanaians to continue to have confidence in President Mahama and vote massively to retain him for another four years. 

He said among all the flag bearers, President Mahama has proven to be the safest pair of hands in leading the country as president saying this is a leader who is a unifier, not divisive, tolerant and respected internationally. 

Vice President Amissah-Arthur assured farmers of better days ahead.

The DCE for Ahafo Ano South East, Gabriel Barima, enumerated the numerous projects government has executed in the district. 

They include a completed community day senior high school, a school bus, other educational and health facilities, water and roads. 

He said cocoa farmers in the district were supplied with about one point two million free cocoa seedlings and five thousand bags of fertiliser and other agro inputs. 

The immediate past National Organiser of the NDC, Yaw Boateng Gyan cautioned supporters of the party against any confrontational act that can lead to violence. 

He said the NDC is for the peace, security and development of every part of the country. 

Therefore, if anybody’s life is threatened because of the election, the person should report to the police. 

They should also not engage in any provocative act that can trigger a violent reaction.

The chief of Asuadei Nana Duruya Adarkwa thanked government for the development it has brought to the town. 

He however, appealed to the Vice President to use his good office to ensure that a public place of convenience and a health facility are provided for Asuadei.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, John Alexander Ackon, assured the chiefs and people that he will liaise with the DCE to ensure that the chief’s requests are provided as soon as practicable.
