EC to amend regulations to make activities consistent with laws The Electoral Commission has set in motion processes towards repealing and amending some critical legal frameworks that will make its activities consistent with the law. Deputy Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Amadu Sulley, made the assertion at a two day Star Ghana Election 2016 Grants partners Learning Events in Accra. The programme provides an opportunity for Civil Society to engage with key stakeholders on emerging issues associated with the election. Alhaji Sulley cited CI 75 and 78 which are being revised and are currently before Parliament as some instruments to be amended. Deputy Chairman of the NCCE, Samuel Akuamoah said the Commission is encouraging the electorate through educational programmes to ensure they vote in the December general election. The Executive Secretary of the National Media Commission NMC, George Sarpong, said the Commission has developed guidelines for political Journalism and advertising. It has also set up Media Advisory Committees in the Ashanti, Volta, Northern and Upper East Region which will soon be replicated in the other regions. Justice Dennis Adjei, an Appeals Court Judge said the judiciary has been taken through processes to make them more knowledgeable in the electoral process. The Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Superintendent Dr Benjamin Agordzo said more than five thousand hot spots have been identified across the country and these will be appropriately monitored to ensure peace during the elections. He expressed concern about the proliferations of arms in the country saying there are more than one million unauthorised arms in the system. GBC
