Supreme Court to announce sentences for Montie FM contemnors

The Supreme Court will today announce sentences for the owners of Montie FM and three others who were found guilty on contempt charges. 

Before the sentencing was deferred to today, their lawyers who pleaded for mitigation said the convicts were first time offenders who have shown remorse for their conduct. 

One of the lawyers, Nana Ato Dadzie pleaded with the court to be lenient with them since they have learnt their lessons and also cautioned other media personnel to be wary of their comments. 

Owners of the station pleaded liable with explanation while the other three, a host and two panelists also pleaded liable with regret. 

Counsel for the Directors of Montie FM explained that their clients were out of the jurisdiction at the time the panelists made those statements adding that when their attention was drawn to the incident, they quickly apologised and also punished the host. 

All the convicts were granted self-recognizance bail.
