Police arrests 49-year old man for dealing in offensive weapons

The Ashanti Regional Police have arrested a 49-year old man, Kwame Afrifa, for allegedly dealing in offensive weapons reserved for the military. 

Afrifa, who has been in the custody of the Asante Mampong Police since last Friday, is to be transferred to the Police Criminal Investigations Department in Accra for forensic investigation. 

Speaking to the media, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku said the suspect was arrested following intelligence report leading to Afrifa's electrical shop at Asante Mampong where a quantity of weapons were retrieved. 

The exhibits consist of 77 pieces of 800 type Self-Defence Flashlights with Shockers, 50 pieces of American Style NATO Super-Paralisant Pepper Spray, 29 pieces of Lachrymater Ejector GA577 and 20 pieces of 2012 Night Flashlight with Shocker. 

According to ACP Ampofo Duku, such offensive weapons are not permitted to be sold on the local market. 

The forensic investigation will therefore establish how the weapons got into the country, those involved, as well as the quantity imported or sold.
