First lady Lordina counsels Ghanaians on over-reliance on white colour jobs

Ghana's First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama says people should eschew the over-reliance on white color jobs over skilled acquired jobs.

She said venturing into vocational training has always been seen by many as an unfair option for a job adding that  it is high time parents debunk that notion and encourage their wards to take up vocational training.

Mrs. Mahama said this in the Volta Region when she presented various sewing and hair equipment to artisans which include hair dressers, dress makers and barbers at Ho -Dome in the Volta Region.

The donation to artisans is another area the Lordina Foundation has been focusing on for some time now aside from the medical supplies she presents to hospitals.

The Lordina Foundation's new focus of assisting artisans across the country was partly triggered by the show of enthusiasm attached by artisans to their work and also how most of them for some time now struggle to enhance their work.

Mrs. Mahama said it is important that as a society and as parents, there is a need to support govts transformational agenda by encouraging their wards to be interested in vocational and technical skills and go for training at appropriate institutions.

Items donated include 50 boxes of hand sewing machines, 30 boxes of industrial sewing machines, 5 boxes of foot massagers, 30 boxes of sterilizers and other hair and sowing equipment.
The donation was made possible with support from the Chinese embassy, the Turkish First Lady among other sponsors.

The Queen Mother of Ho-Dome Mama Atrato expressed appreciation to the First Lady for her support.

She said the town had been able to establish a pregnancy School for needy mothers where they are trained in other vocations to enable them to be self-employed. 

She appealed for support for the school.

Meanwhile the First Lady later visited the Ho market where she interacted with the market women and to know their needs and come to their aid.
