Late Upper East NPP Chairman’s wife testifies in court


The widow of the late Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mahama Adams has been testifying in the trial of Gregory Afoko, the alleged murderer. 

Hajia Zenabu Adams recounted that on the 20th of May, last year, the deceased left home at about 7:30 am to inspect his building project located along the Bolga - Tamale road. She said her late husband returned home in his car at about 11pm that day wailing and screaming for help. 

Continuing, she said she got out of the room to meet him and inquired from the him why he was shouting and crying. 

According to her, the deceased responded that a younger brother of Paul Afoko the politician, Gregory and one Asabke had poured some substance on him. 

Hajia Adams recounted that she brought her husband out of the vehicle and laid him on the ground. According to the witness, she realised that he was naked and therefore dashed o to the room to get a cloth to cover him. 

She then found his shirt on the car seat destroyed by the substance. She told the court that her husband instructed her to call one Thomas who advised that he should be sent to the hospital immediately. 

She also claimed that by that time, Alhaji Adams body had started burning. 

The testimony of the witness was on several occasions interrupted with heated arguments from both the defence and the prosecution. 

The witness spoke Hausa and the interpretation to English became a subject of controversy. 

The defence team also strongly requested a copy of the police medical report to which the prosecution explained that there was none. 

The trial has been adjourned to 11th October.
