National Health Insurance Scheme to be overhauled

The National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, is to receive a complete overhaul by the end of this year to make it more focused and sustainable. 

The Review Committee set up by Government to assess and propose solutions to the numerous challenges facing the scheme has presented its report to government for onward study and implementation. 

Making the announcements, the Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia, said the Committee's recommendations are currently before cabinet and that plans are being put in place to start implementing them by December this year. 

Mr. Segbefia was responding to questions about the NHIS raised by members of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana at their 22nd National Delegates Conference in Accra.
