Energy expert proposes diversification of fuel sources to solve power crisis

An energy expert, Dr Ishmael Ackah says diversification of fuel sources is a key way of solving Ghana’s power crisis. 

Ghana currently have the capacities, but the recurring water shortage at the Akosombo and Bui dams coupled with the inadequate fuel to power the plants have worsen the situation. 

Ghana at the moment should be planning to invest in solar and wind energy to serve as alternative to the available capacities. 

Dr Ishmael Ackah who is the Head of Policy Unit at the Africa Center for Energy said this at a forum on citizen’s Agenda for energy development in Tamale. 

Dr Ackah hinted that the country is likely to go back to load shedding if stringent provisions are not made by government to fuel the plants as a matter of urgency.

With the introduction of the energy realignment, he noted that, consumers will see little reduction in their tariffs but that should not compromise frequent power supply.
