Two panelists and a radio host to appear before Supreme Court today


Two panelists and a host on an Accra based radio “Montie FM” are to appear before the Supreme Court to answer contempt charges leveled against them.

The three, Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase, popularly called Mugabe, were alleged to have threatened judges in the country.

The three were ordered to appear before the apex court today, Tuesday July 12, 2016 after a private citizen went to court following their threat.

The notice summoning them said they should come and justify why they should not be imprisoned.

The management of the station has, however, apologised to judges over the issue.

Meanwhile, their lawyer Chris Ackummey has said he will go and plead with the court to temper justice with mercy.

Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn while on Accra-based Montie FM weeks ago threatened to kill some Supreme Court and High Court judges if they ruled against the Electoral Commission in the Abu Ramadan case.

Their comments have been widely condemned. The Ghana Bar Association had earlier called for their arrest and prosecution.

The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) which is investigating the matter announced that the two were harmless saying they cannot carry through to their threats because they made them “in a show of bravado".
