Shai Traditional Council violates High Court's order-Report The Shai Traditional Council has been sued for contempt for violating a High Court's order to process the name of the Paramount Chief for the area into the register of the National House of Chiefs. The Paramount Chief, Odeopeor Martey Kodjoe Awah filed the contempt application against the members of the Traditional Council for failing to comply with the Court's order within ten days following the judgment which was delivered last March. According to the applicant, following his installation as Paramount Chief, he applied to the Shai Traditional Council which is the mandated body to have his name registered with the National House of Chiefs and even obtained judgment to that effect. He said the Council has refused to respect the order which undermines the authority of the court. Odeopeor Martey Kodjoe Awah is accordingly praying the court to commit the members of the Council to prison. The Traditional Council is however opposing the contempt application saying that it is misconceived. In the affidavit in opposition, Acting President of the Council, Nene Nornor Sordji said they have already initiated steps to comply with the order. GBC
