Abetifi by-election slated for July 16
 

The Electoral Commission (EC) said it would hold the Abetifi By-election on Saturday, July 16, 2016.

A statement signed by the Deputy Chairman of Operations of the EC, Amadu Sulley said the polls will open at all polling stations from 7:00am to 5:00pm.

The statement said the change in date was necessary to make way for the planned exhibition of the 2016 Provisional Voters Register scheduled for Monday July 18 2016.

It said all contesting parties had been given due notice of the change, and the Commission had put adequate measures in place to ensure a smooth electoral exercise.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Peter Wiafe Pepera, on May 21 this year.

Mr. Pepera reportedly died of heart attack at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on Saturday, May 21, 2016.

An industrial consultant by profession, Mr. Pepera, 62, was the Managing Director of Paramount Distilleries.

He was a member of the Committee of Privileges, House Committee as well as the Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee of Parliament.
