Chiana-Paga NDC Primary shifted to July 16

The Chiana-Paga NDC Parliamentary Primary originally scheduled for tomorrow, July 9, has again been postponed. 

Reports say the suspension has thrown the constituency into a state of uncertainty amid wild protests by party faithful. 

The NDC primary had been slated for next week (July 16).

Three aspirants including the sitting MP, Abuga Pele, Jonathan Nyaaba, a Conservationist of Cultural Heritage and Rudolph Amega-Etego, a Veteran Legal Practitioner are vying for the position.

The contest for the seat was originally scheduled for November last year. 

News of the latest development hit the constituency at dawn yesterday (July 7) , sparking off a wave of rage and protests. 

Some members of the party at Sirigu, one of the largest communities in the Eastern Zone of the constituency, are reported to have announced plans to back their protests with massive rallies and demonstrations in the streets anytime soon.

But in an interview with Radio Ghana, the Upper East Regional Director of the EC, James Arthur-Yeboah said the EC was not even aware there was a primary originally scheduled for this Saturday at Chiana-Paga.

The Primary until the previous date was announced had been delayed for about eight months raising fears that the eventual winner of the contest will have too little time to campaign alongside candidates of the other political parties who held their primaries about a year ago in the constituency.

The NDC's leadership was however tight-lipped about what was responsible for the prolonged hold up of the primary.
