EC to announce modalities for deletion of ‘NHIS registrants’ 

The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is taking the appropriate steps to comply with the Supreme Court’s directives which say names of persons who registered in 2012 using the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards as evidence of their citizenship should be deleted.  

A statement signed by the Deputy Chairperson, Corporate Services, Georgina Opoku Amankwa said it would in the coming week outline the modalities for the deletion of NHIS card registrants and exhibition of the 2016 Provisional Voters Register which is scheduled to start on 18th July, 2016 in all polling or exhibition centres across the country. 

The statement explained that the new development will help the EC and all stakeholders to ensure a clean and credible register ahead of the elections.  

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission will hold the Abetifi by-election next week Saturday (July 16). 

The change of date is necessary to make way for the planned exhibition of the 2016 provisional voters register which is scheduled to start from Monday 18th July 2016.

According to EC all contesting parties have been given due notice for the change, and the Commission has put adequate measures in place to ensure a smooth electoral exercise.
