MAREDES presents books to eight schools in Upper West


To improve on effective teaching and learning in schools in the Upper West Region, the Marshallan Relief and Development Services, MADERES a charity wing of the Noble Order of Knights and Ladies of Marshall has presented assorted book valued at several thousands of Ghana Cedis to eight schools in the region. 

The category of beneficiaries are from tertiary, second cycle, basic and lower primary. 

Presenting the books at Wa the North West Regional Grand Knights Worthy brother Vincent Pogun said the society sees investment in education as one of the best hence its continuous assistance to educational institutions in the region. 

Radio Ghana’s Correspondents Sualah Abdul-Wahab and Vanessa Akuffo of who witnessed the presentation, report that the presentation of the books coincided with the annual fun games of the society which takes place on every Republic Day. 

The books comprised of English Language, Mathematics, Science and drawing text books. 

The Beneficiary schools are Nusurat Jahan and MC-Coy colleges of Education, Lassia Toulu and Daffiama Senior High Schools, Wa Methodist and Sankana Junior High as well as Sankana and Saint John’s Catholic KG. 

The North West Regional Grand Knights Worthy Brother Vincent Pogun said MAREDES will in this month train selected teachers in effective teaching of Mathematics and Science across the country. 

He hinted that five teachers from the Upper West region will participate in the training preferably women. 

This he said is aimed at encouraging more students particularly girls to develop much interest in those subjects. 

Worthy Brother Pogun said some schools in the region have benefited from similar packages from MAREDES in the past citing the Nadowli-Kaleo district as one of the beneficiary districts.

He entreated the beneficiary schools to make good use of the books and not to keep them in shelves. 

A teacher from Sankana KG, one of the beneficiary schools Madam Prudence Nong-Erah expressed gratitude to MAREDES for the presentation. 

Madam Nong-Erah said the books will be used to improve the reading skills of the children. 

The presentation was preceded by free medical screening for members. 

They were screened for Blood pressure, hypertension, HIV and Diabetes among others.
