Government urged to help survival of new born babies in deprived areas

The Chief Executive Officer of Action for Community Health Development Foundation-Ghana, ACHDEF-GHANA an NGO, Andrew Salifu Braima, has urged the government and the citizenry to help ensure the survival of new born babies, especially in deprived areas.

He was speaking at the launch of ACHDEF-GHANA in the Brong-Ahafo Regional Capital, Sunyani. 

Mr Braima noted that four million infants die in the first 28 days of life each year due to lack of effective training in health care practices. 

He maintained that this accounts for seven percent of Global Neonatal deaths. 

He said ACHDEF-GHANA has taken up the task of educating Ghanaians, especially pregnant women to help prevent these deaths.  

Mr. Braima entreated Ghanaians to take charge of their own health by making sure they live in a clean and hygienic environment. 

The Project Manager of ACHDEF-GHANA, Evans Ateikperiga Ayiisi said, the organization will hold capacity building programmes for nurses and midwives to enhance their technical knowledge to ensure safe and infection free delivery. 

He said the NGO would also educate pregnant women on the need to attend both antenatal and postnatal care clinics as well as patronize nutritious foods.
