ECG recovers GHC39.7m from illegal activities of customers nationwide

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) recovered 39.7 million cedis in a special exercise it embarked on nationwide to clamp down on illegal activities, from August last year to March this year.  

The Director of Customer Services of ECG, Nana Kobina Arthur-Forson, made this known when the special revenue protection team extended the exercise to Tema Community 8 in the Tema North District of the ECG.  

According to him the exercise was also aimed at creating awareness about the need to stop stealing electricity.  

Nana Arthur-Forson said owners of the three houses found to be stealing electricity through the by passing of the installed pre-paid meters, were disconnected, and the owners served with summons to appear before the Tema North District Manager, to pay for the lost revenue.  

He said apart from being sur-charged, the culprits will face prosecution in Court, set up to deal with people who steal electricity.
