Brussels bomb alert as man arrested


Belgian security says the suspect, who was arrested following a bomb alert in a Brussels shopping mall, was wearing a fake explosive belt filled with salt. 

According to the city prosecutors office, soon after, two metro stations were evacuated.

The incident which happened at the City2 Shopping Mall in the heart of the Belgian capital, was said to be a bomb alert. 

Streets around the City 2 shopping center were closed off and a bomb disposal unit sent to the scene.

Reports say Prime Minister Charles Michel after a meeting with national crisis response Centre, said: "For the moment, the situation is under control," He said security services remained "extremely vigilant".

Belgium's terror alert level remains at three, one step down from a maximum level of four.

City 2 tightened security measures last week in response to media reports of a heightened threat to shopping Centre’s based on an internal police memo.

Bomb attacks on Brussels airport and the city's metro killed 32 people in March and were claimed by the Islamic State group.
