Parts of Accra inundated by heavy rains

Several parts of Accra have been inundated following heavy rains Tuesday morning. Commuters going to work had to seek refuge at safer places. 

Drivers have to park their vehicles to avoid being  swept  away by the floods. Reports say the  Odaw River at Kwame Nkrumah Circle is full to the brim.  

The Graphic road, parts of Nima,Dzorwulu,Darkuman junction, and  Sakaman are all reported to have been submerged by the rain waters.

The flood situation around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange was relatively better following this morning's rainfall. However, the Obra Spot to the Provident Insurance Head Office portion of the road was flooded with motorists cautiously driving through the water.

The Interchange at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle served as a  refuge for commuters to avoid being drenched.

Raincoat and umbrella hawkers also took advantage of the rain to make brisk business. 

Those who had already been  drenched by the rain jumped on standby motorbikes to continue to their destinations.

The storm drain behind the Paloma Hotel  had over flowed its banks and some young men had positioned themselves at the traffic lights to direct.  

During the June 3 flooding, this particular storm drain over flooded its banks and swept away vehicles, motorbikes, kiosks and refuse containers. 

Still on the Ring Road Central, the drain opposite the GBC overflowed onto the road because it has been filled with silt thereby forcing the run off onto the road. This part of the drain had been blocked for years and the city authorities have done nothing about it.
