Government Committed To Sustaining Gains - Minister

Government says it is committed to sustaining gains it has so far made in human development. 

A statement signed by the Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah says the latest data on per capita income from the International Monetary Fund,  the World Economic Outlook 2016,  puts Ghana’s GDP per capita in current terms in the year 2015 at 1,340 dollars four cents. 

This represents five point nine percent increase over the 2008 figure.  This is higher than that of Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and Kenya.

Government however acknowledges that mere economic growth and its associated indicators are necessary but not sufficient measurements of human well-being. 

In terms of education, Ghana’s education system ranks among the best on the African Continent. 

The University of Ghana was recently ranked the 7th best University in Africa by the Times Higher Education. 

The statement adds that the latest UNDP report shows that Ghana’s mean years in school, that is 7 years is higher and better than that of Kenya; 6.3 , Nigeria 5.9 , Cote d’Ivoire 4.3 and Senegal 2.5 years.
